Yesterday I finally plucked up the nerve to post some stuff on CGHub, my favourite site for inspirational artwork. I had been reluctant to post earlier because I wanted to have a body of work that would create a SENSATION. Work that people would gasp at and scramble to save in their inspiration folder, bookmark and send to friends. But what I came to realize is that I'd never do it if that was the bar I set. There would always be something not quite ready and in the meantime I'd be missing out on all that valuable feedback and exposure.
So, I picked out a modest amount of pieces and uploaded them to a gallery. The next morning I was shocked to discover one of those pieces was on the front page as an Editor's Pick. A little splash after all. It meant a lot to me and has encouraged me to get myself out there more.
There were a couple questions regarding process on the piece selected so I put together a little breakdown. It's a pretty sloppy way to go at something like this, but hopefully somewhat interesting. Thanks CGHub!

Trying out a rendering technique I saw on the Art Center blog.

Bishamon!

This was my entry for the Dark Stalkers Tribute book. It got accepted, but there were some things that I didn't have time to tweak before submitting. I have now changed those things so I thought I'd post it.

Got some peer feedback on the dragon head from the last post and, though it was well liked, I felt that people were drawing too many associations with well known designs out there. That equals derivative. Hard to avoid these days, but I thought I'd try. I'm actually really happy with this second iteration and am looking forward to taking it further.

Duuuump Cont...

3D DUuuuuuUMP!

For a while, my friends at work have been asking about what I've been working on at home and I've been putting off posting because none of it is really done. I'm a chronic starter and reluctant finisher when it comes to personal stuff. I am resolved however, to take everything seen here to completion before starting any new 3D work. There, I said it on the internet. Can't take it back.
Anyway, here it is. Just remember, none of it is done.

Ganon!

Ranks very high in my video game villain favourites. This is a progress shot as I add a body and tweak design on an old painting of this guy. Lots to do still.
